Course Synopsis
This course aims to provide an introductory to the fourth pillar of Islam which is regarded as obligatory charity for every eligible Muslim. The course offers insights on almsgiving(zakat) by explaining the fundamental concept of zakat, covering its definition, its basis in the Quran and Hadith, and its importance. Next, it explores the types of zakat and the conditions for its payment, including eligibility criteria. Finally, the course discusses zakat recipients and the consequences of non-compliance. At the end of this course, participants will understand the basic concepts, importance, and conditions for paying and receiving zakat in Islam.
Course Objectives
In this course, the participants will be invited to achieve following objectives:
- 1. To deepen participants' understanding of the importance of almsgiving (zakat) as the Fourth Pillar of Islam.
- 2. To explain the fundamental concept of zakat, covering its definition, its basis in the Quran and Hadith, and its importance.
- 3. To offer insights into types of almsgiving (zakat) and the conditions of zakat payment which also addresses the concern of who is eligible to pay zakat.
- 4. To discuss almsgiving (zakat) recipients and the consequences of not observing the law of zakat.

Course Learning Outcome
The course will enable the participants to comprehend the basic concepts and importance of Zakat (Almsgiving ) in Islam as well as its conditions and the zakat recepients.
Assessment
The assessment for this course consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and short reflection essays.
